Laura Torres López

Brief Biography

Laura holds a B.S. in Computer Systems Engineer from ITESO and a M.S. in Electronic Commerce from ITESM Campus Guadalajara. From 1993 to 2009, she worked at the University of Guadalajara on the administrative departments, mainly focus on software development for specific administrative applications that allowed her to take advantage of elements that were making the trends: databases, object-oriented programming, client-server applications, web applications, rational unified process for software development and quality standards. Also, she has taught at degree level: programming languages and graphical interfaces topics.Since 2009, she is a PhD in IT student, where she focus her research work to Database Technology in the aim to support massive multiuser online application, which have requirements that are highly demanding as the real-time processing.

Title: "Big data integration model on multilayer basis for a distributed crowd sourced system".

Director: Dr. Víctor M. Larios Rosillo.

Co-Director: Dr. Ignacio Silva-Lepe (IBM Watson Research Center).

Abstract. This is a great time for the data management technology, due the large amount of information collected throughout the world as a result of IT used by people for every day life: Internet, mobile devices, social networks, cloud services, and others, propitiating the paradigm of big data.
This variety of data sources could support the solutions to problems inherent to megacities issues; there are both private and government initiatives working on among the world. On that sense, the traffic information analytics may let the mobility improvement by the collection of data that describes the real situation and in return generates alternatives for an efficient distribution of the vehicles over the city streets, warnings about incidents, route assistance and so on.
However, there are huge challenges to manage efficiently the big data generated by a city. The present thesis work proposes the LauxBox model to support the data integration on multilayer basis for a distributed crowd sourced system, using the current data management technological trends: Mapreduce and Hadoop. The case of study is the Smart Traffic System for Guadalajara, Jalisco, México.
